Ignacio Pinazo Camarlench
Valencia, January 11, 1849 – Godella, October 18, 1916
He was born in Valencia, on Calle de Sagunto, the son of modest artisans. In his youth, to help his parents, he took on various manual trades. His vocation, long suppressed, finally broke through in full physical maturity and developed with urgency until his death. His studies, his works, his ambitions all had the feverish rhythm of someone trying to make up for lost time. Neither the satisfaction of honours nor the burden of illness could halt his creative drive. Until his very last moment, he pursued his ideal of beauty. (E. Casar Estellés)
